Founded in 2006 and based in Chula Vista, California (USA), the Thundercats compete under the umbrella of Duo Sports International and are active members of the Pacific West Football League and the Super 8 Football League.

A Farm Team composed of players from various Mexican leagues will participate in the World Sports Games 2023.
Team Mexico Monterrey represents one of the main candidates for success at the CSIT World Sports Games 2023 in Cervia, competing in the discipline of Gridiron Football Tackle 9vs9.

American Football in Mexico

What can you tell us about football in Mexico?

American football in Mexico dates back more than 100 years. Surprisingly, at certain points in history, it was even more popular than baseball and football (soccer).

The sport began in the 1920s within educational institutions and quickly expanded nationwide. Universities adopted American football as a primary sport, followed by preparatory schools, children’s clubs, amateur leagues, semi-professional leagues, and professional leagues.

Over the decades, Mexico has embraced all forms of the game, including:

• Tackle Football

• Flag Football

• Arena Football

Both men’s and women’s football have played a significant role in shaping the history of this beautiful sport in our country.

Tell us about Team Mexico

TEAM MEXICO is primarily composed of senior players with many years of experience. The roster includes former athletes from:

• Youth and children’s leagues

• University Major Leagues

• Semi-professional and professional leagues

These players have grown together through every stage of American football—from childhood to youth, intermediate, major levels, and now competing in Master 11 and Master Arena categories in Mexico’s top leagues.

This long shared journey has enabled the team to compete in local tournaments, national competitions, and international amateur events.
